The Le Mans Classic weekend did not yield the silverware that the DHG Racing team and drivers David and Olivier Hart had hoped for. Aside from a magnificent victory in the Lola T70 MK3B, technical malfunctions and bad luck repeatedly ended podium chances during one of the most prestigious events of the year.
The Ford GT40, which David and Olivier were set to race in the Grid 4 contests, ran into trouble during the first lap of qualifying. A problem with the V8 engine subsequently prevented the duo from seeing any further action with the legendary American car.

This did not apply to the Lola T70 MK3B used for the Grid 5 races; with an excellent time of 4:18, DHG Racing secured pole position for the first of the Grid 5 contests. That first race seemed to be going according to plan, with a fastest lap of 4:15, even faster than in qualifying. However, a 2 minute time penalty thwarted their progress, meaning fourteenth place was the highest achievable result for the team.

Revenge was achieved in the second race. In a beautiful battle against the Ferrari 312 P of Lips and Franklin, the lead swapped hands throughout the forty-minute contest. The lead was never truly clear, but in a thrilling finale, both cars went neck and neck through the final corner combination. David Hart held his ground and defeated the Ferrari by a margin of only half a second. In the third race of the class, the battle was initially once again between the Lola and the Ferrari until a driveshaft broke in the sixth lap of nine, bringing the British sports car to a standstill.

David Hart also saw action in the Group C race with the Peugeot 905 Evo1Bis, where he qualified tenth. In the race, the French sports car worked its way up to a podium position and was running second until a broken rim hampered progress and ended the race prematurely.
As such, these were not the results the DHG Racing team had hoped for. But despite the bad luck and setbacks, it was clear that the Dutch team was a contender for the top prizes across the board in front of over 200,000 spectators at this fantastic event.
