A successful finale to the Peter Auto Race Series at the Estoril Circuit secured multiple victories for the DHG Racing team.
It was no hardship for David Hart and Nicky Pastorelli to travel to the sunny Estoril Circuit in Portugal to successfully conclude the season in the penultimate race.
Olivier was not present this weekend. David and Nicky shared the Lola and Cobra, while David drove the Lister solo. The first race belonged to the Lister, which made an excellent start from pole position and held on to that position throughout the 40-minute race. With a lead of over a minute and the fastest lap, David secured his first victory. A tougher challenge, of course, was the 1960s endurance race with 40 cars on the grid, where Hart and Pastorelli qualified first, two hundredths ahead of the runner-up.
David took the start again and was in a fierce battle with the other Cobras, resulting in a second-place finish during the driver change. Nicky was tasked with driving the Shelby Cobra back to the front from P5. A fierce battle ensued between the Cobras. For a moment, it looked like Pastorelli might take the lead, but due to a stuttering second gear, he just missed out, finishing 1.1 seconds behind the winner after two hours of racing.
Last but not least, it was the Lola’s turn, qualifying in P2 behind the McLaren of Devis and O’Connell. David took the start again this time and, with his consistent lap times, managed to stay ahead until the pit stop on lap 15.
Now it was Nicky’s turn to hold off the fast O’Connell, who, however, experienced problems with his McLaren, allowing Nicky to cross the finish line first with a lead of almost two minutes.
