With the excellent results of the past two races, Spa was also able to join the ranks, with two first-place finishes and a fourth-place finish.
All’s well that ends well, with that in mind, the DHG Team traveled to Spa to achieve good results here as well.
Free practice went smoothly, except for a black flag due to excessive noise in the GT40 and an unruly rocker in the Lola, which was quickly resolved.
First in the line of cars was the Alfa Romeo Olivier was competing in the competitive U2TC series, where he finished less than 1/10 of a second off the pole time in practice.
The race was extremely exciting, with Olivier battling hard against the number one car in another Alfa GTA, which unfortunately had to retire with a technical defect after Olivier overtook him.
With a comfortable lead, Olivier took the chequered flag first and set the fastest lap time ever in this class, under three minutes, securing the team’s first victory.
The Spa 6-Hour race was also held on Saturday, with Hart and Pastorelli at the wheel. They had managed to secure a respectable tenth place in qualifying in the dark, a result that could have been much better, but wasn’t important at the time.
Thanks to an extremely strong performance by David in the GT40, he managed to move up well and secure a top-three position. The Ford performed exceptionally well, and Olivier and Nicky set fast lap times on the now darkening track.
Unfortunately, the race was plagued by numerous pace car situations, which were unfavorable for our GT40, causing us to lose many minutes compared to the competition.
With a final fourth-place finish, just off the podium, the DHG Team was quite satisfied.
There were plenty of podium opportunities on Sunday, with the Cobra in the Gentleman drivers’ category starting in P2, on the front row. David and Olivier drove a strong race with a quick pit stop, ultimately winning the race by over 8 seconds despite a drive-through and a malfunctioning gearbox.
With one race remaining and two wins already under their belt, it was the turn of the Lola, which started from P4.
David was quickly involved in a fierce battle for the top three and managed to keep the Lola
on track well on the twisty track of Spa.
After the pit stop, Nicky took over, but he soon struggled with a less-than-optimal engine and then a faulty gearbox. Unfortunately, there was no podium finish, and they were forced to abandon the race.
All in all, a great weekend at Spa and a good end to the 2018 racing season.
