MUGELLO MAGIC FOR DHG RACING

DHG Racing performed excellently during a soaking wet Mugello Classic, the first major historic event of the year. On the characteristic Italian circuit, the team featuring David Hart and Nicky Pastorelli competed in three races which, although they yielded no silverware, provided more than enough positive points to look back on the weekend with a good feeling.

The first race for the DHG Racing team during the Mugello Classic was the two-hour Sixties’ Endurance race. With 72 cars on 5.2 kilometres of Italian asphalt, finding a clear lap during a wet qualifying session was an achievement in itself. During that timed practice, David and Nicky clocked the sixth-fastest time with the Shelby Cobra 289, just a minimal distance from the front row of the starting grid.

David started the race, which took place on Saturday evening, made a rocket start, and moved up to fourth place almost immediately. A magnificent battle ensued in which David caught an early scent of the podium but was also pushed back outside the top five on several occasions. Halfway through the race, Nicky took over the wheel of the American muscle car and was able to build on the work his teammate had done. The further the race progressed, the greater the chances of a top ranking seemed to become. In the absolute final phase, the DHG Racing team secured fourth place overall and third place in the GTS5 class.

In the CER1 class, David steered the Lola T70 MK3B to an excellent second place in qualifying, just behind the fastest time. During the 60 minute race, he continued that form immediately by taking the lead. A beautiful battle with Gonçalo Gomes and his Lola T212 developed, with the two British sports cars rarely more than a few metres apart. This continued until misfortune struck; with only 10 minutes remaining, a broken shift rod forced the team to throw in the towel from the leading position.

Mugello also marked the debut of the Ferrari 512 BB LM for DHG Racing. The Italian supercar made its debut in the hands of David and Nicky during the CER 2 race. As is common with a new adventure, the 60 minute race became an extensive test to resolve various technical challenges. But what is much more important is the potential of the new addition. With the fastest time in the class, the Ferrari was exceptionally quick, which holds great promise for the rest of this season.
