This time, we were able to participate in the Silverstone Classic Race, which normally falls right in the middle of team owner David Hart’s vacation.
The former airport circuit, with its challenging corners, isn’t exactly easy, but the Harts managed to do well with the AC Cobra Daytona in qualifying (P7). The Lister Jaguar, which David drove solo, lagged far behind this time due, in hindsight, to an incorrect engine setup (P17).
The first race on Saturday was for the Lister Jaguar. We had been able to fix the engine problem and were confident we could move up. As is typical of David, he skillfully maneuvered into the sub-leading group and settled into P8.
Unfortunately, we had to pit due to a leaking brake caliper, which spelled the end of the race.
Unfortunately, the Cobra wasn’t exactly lucky either: due to a cracked suspension, the reserve Cobra had to start from the back (P58) in a wet race that turned into a veritable water ballet.
David took the start, but due to a second warm-up lap and heavy rain, the start was confusing for the others in front, and he lost a significant amount of time. Despite the slow start, the Cobra quickly moved to the front, and Olivier took over after the pit stop.
Once underway, Olivier set very fast lap times, a full half a second faster than the winners! This ultimately resulted in a well-deserved eleventh-place finish.
