DHG Racing kicked off the Historic GP race weekend under the motto “The Boys are Back in Town.” The weekend at Circuit Zandvoort began under highly variable weather conditions, which sometimes made things challenging on the track.
The first race on Saturday was for Olivier in the Mustang. Despite starting from P13 due to a penalty, Olivier made a good start in the pouring rain, immediately setting a top-three lap time. Due to the numerous incidents, the race was stopped after just five laps. Just before that, Olivier had retired due to water in the ignition, so he didn’t finish the first NKHTGT race.
The next race was for David and Olivier together in the AC Cobra Daytona, where they had set a second-place practice time. David took the start and was in a tough battle with Nicky Pastorelli in the Ferrari, whom he managed to keep behind him very well. David and his Daytona struggled due to a loose spark plug cap, forcing him to pit for his mandatory pit stop. Olivier took over the wheel and, with the spark plug cap in place, managed to set some super-fast laps again. On the straight, while braking for Tarzan Corner, he suddenly lost the throttle. Thanks to Olivier’s lightning-fast reaction, he managed to keep the Cobra on track, but unfortunately, he had to pit afterward.
Early Sunday morning, at 8:00 AM, Olivier’s one-hour race kicked off in the Alfa GTA. Starting from P7, Olivier quickly worked his way to the front and quickly found himself among the top three, among the Minis and Ford Cortinas. A slightly too-fast start earned him a 5-second penalty, which fortunately had no effect thanks to his 9-second lead over second place. Ultimately, this hard-fought race with Steve Soper resulted in victory. Olivier took home a beautiful trophy and, even better, a fantastic Chopard watch; his first victory of the weekend was secured.
One of the highlights remains the race with the Lola T70, which has recently been facing increasing competition from smaller sports cars. Qualifying P7, David got off to a strong start and quickly moved up to P2. Unfortunately, he suffered a drive-through due to an early start. After the pit stop, David managed to pull ahead again, ultimately finishing 3rd in class and 7th overall.
To conclude the day, Olivier got behind the wheel of his Ford Mustang once more, starting from 34th. He managed to gain over 20 places in the Mustang despite his car’s poor braking. Olivier crossed the finish line 2nd in class and 11th overall.
